I Do… Rhodri & Helena, Ashton Memorial

I cannot believe this beautiful wedding was now just over a year ago! I adored this day and am so thrilled to share the wedding with you.

Helena is actually a friend of a friend and I originally met her and Rhodri just under 4 years ago at a party when they hadn’t in fact been together very long. They were such a sweet couple and seemed even for that brief evening so perfect for each other I was over the moon for them when I had heard they got engaged.

They met through Helena’s work when Rhodri was studying to be a doctor but it wasn’t until a long time later that eventually at a fancy dress party they swapped numbers. Rhodri was even wearing a horse’s head… that’s a story to tell the grandchildren!

Their first date was a walk around the gorgeous Williamson Park where they lived in Lancaster and where we shot their engagement shoot. In the centre of the park, high on the hill that can be seen for miles around is Ashton Memorial built by millionaire Industrialist Baron Ashton in memory of his late wife Jessy.  Apt then that they should choose to marry in such an incredible place both in their own history, the history of the city where they met and in fact with very romantic origins.

Funnily enough it is actually a really special place for me also as somewhere I remember visiting as a teenager with my Dad. It can also be seen from the M6 and is a real landmark for me as I travel home to Kendal from Norfolk a few times a year and always feel like I am ‘home’ when I pass this amazing building.

The day was fabulous from start to finish… in true Northern style we had quite a bit of rain (you can even see it in a few images) but that really didn’t matter everyone had a wonderful day both at the Memorial for the ceremony and then the incredible Forrest Hills for the reception.

Highlights of the day, being sung to in Welsh by the boys while doing their group shot, the amazing meal and incredible ‘Cake off’, and shooting their couple shots at Ashton Memorial, magical!

So a slightly belated Happy Anniversary Helena I hope to see you both again soon!

Here are some of my favourite shots…
