Gosh where do I start with this stunning wedding day. I don’t tend to shoot many weddings at Hales Hall and haven’t been for about 18 months. Its funny that as photographers we often get booked for the same venues and thats usually because couples see images from their venue and want the same! However capturing a venue I have never shot or am not at often is SO much fun for a photographer, to see a stunning venue in a new place is just so inspiring!
I hadn’t met Karl and Abby before their wedding day and they had booked what feels like an age ago (close to 2 years I think!) Abby and I were pregnant at the same time and actually both had our little girls just 2 days apart. I couldn’t wait to meet her and their gorgeous little lady Ayla!
I arrived in the morning to capture the girls getting ready in the main house which is one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever shot in. Its higgled piggledy rooms with beams and floor boards are so full of character its a photographers dream.
With lots of bridesmaids, mums, grandma and children it was a very busy morning and the girls where having a great time drinking fizz (when they could get the bottle open) and being made to look fabulous.
Over with the boys a slightly more nervous looking Karl was getting ready with all the guys in one of the little cottages. There was LOTS of them so we headed outside for them to finish getting dressed in the sunshine. Before I headed back to the girls the beers were opened and I left them ready to go, sitting in the sun drink in hand (its so much easier for the guys!)
Back with the girls it was almost time for Abby to put her dress on. With the help of her mum in one of the amazing attic rooms she looked stunning. Abby had read my timing sheet blog post and had planned her times to a tee… no rushing to finish makeup or get into dresses here, all the girls were ready for a reveal and photos 30 mins before the ceremony.
Abby walked across with her dad, mum and stepdad, daughter and bridesmaids. The excitement and nerves in this final walk as a Miss is always one of my favourite shots of the day. As she walked up the aisle Karl fought the tears and was totally blown away. I got some gorgeous ceremony shots in the Great Barn (its the most epic room!) but actually this close up of Abby looking at Karl is one of my favourites from their day.
After the ceremony they did some great confetti shots before having plenty of time for drinks and canapés on the lawn. We then did their group photos and then sneaked off for a few shots with their beautiful little int the grounds.
They chose to do their speeches before the meal which had been the case at most of my weddings this year. I can’t recommend this highly enough at this time of year so we can grab golden hour as it happens! I love the speeches at this wedding and big shout out to the best man who also had me giggling!
During the meal it had clouded over but just at the right moment the sun came out and treated us to the most amazing golden hour.
We headed back in not long before cake cut and first dance and lots of dance floor shots before I headed off.
Huge thanks to Abby and Karl for being so wonderful to work with. To Briony, Emily and the team at DeAth events for looking after me so well and to Ellie and Rich from VT films who are always brilliant to shoot a wedding with!
Here are my favourite five moments…
