last weekend I had two glorious weddings. Both very different but both amazing and with the loveliest couples I could have asked for.
First up was Alex and Katie’s big day at the incredible Holkham Hall. I hadn’t met these two before the wedding but Alex had been in contact via email and in one of his final emails before the wedding said – “We love your work and are more than happy for you to go with what you think will result in the best shots on the day.” Nothing makes me happier than when a couple are just simply happy to trust my judgement on the day and its safe to say these two were behind my ideas 100%.
Well what an amazing day we had. I arrived with the girls having hair and makeup by Amanda Steed and Ellie Norman. They had booked the sweetest little garden cottage int he grounds of Holkham to get ready but although it was a little bit of a squeeze they spilled into their beautiful garden sunshine which was a rather idyllic spot to get ready.
Katie’s wedding was wait for it… Vera Wang! My first ever Vera Wang wedding dress and WOW she looked incredible. It was truly the perfect dress for her and as she arrived at the Holkham door way I felt like we were doing some kind of bridal shoot rather than an actual wedding! As she walked up the aisle Alex didn’t turn to look until she was at the very top and then he was blown away. The marble hall is the most amazing space for ceremonies and the registrar is usually kind enough to allow me to move round the ceremony room up to the balcony for the most wonderful views.
After the ceremony they walked up the stairs to the Saloon and then back down to clouds of confetti before jumping in the car and heading off up the hill for their couple shots with the view. The view is of course spectacular but on a sunny day the light is very bright as the whole field is in the sunshine so I suggested nipping up the lane to the Temple which is always bathed in shadow and the lane itself is one of my favourite parts of the estate. Despite her heels Katie was a trouper and we nipped up for a few couple shots before they jumped in the car and headed back down for drinks in the Statue gallery.
Once we had done their couple shots at the front of the hall they all wandered down to the Lady Elizabeth wing for drinks, canapés by the amazing Andy Parle and were ready to be seated.
I always love it when a bride makes a speech and Katie’s (as well as the boys) was wonderful. They did their speeches between courses and then at the end of the main and best man’s speech we nipped off for their second set of couple shots managing to capture a tiny bit of golden hour before some beautiful shots by the lake.
Back at the reception it was almost time for their first dance and they smashed some choreography before their guests joined them for a rather epic dance floor.
I loved this wedding and there were so many images I wanted to share but here are my favourite five moments…
Huge thanks to Alex and Katie and as always the amazing Holkham Hall staff for looking after me so well!
